In the Bible [Genesis 4:1-8] we learn the story of two brothers, one called Cain, and the other Abel.

After reading the biblical account of Cain and Abel, two sub-themes came to the forefront; self-identity and responsibility.The story differs also in that it is Abel who leaves his home instead of Cain. This alternate reading introduces the idea that Cain feels evil and kills Abel because of the jealousy he feels towards his brother and God's love for Abel. Such a relationship is illustrated through the Cain and Abel allusions in the novel. Sonny's Blues The Title Sonny's Blues referring to the short story written by James Baldwin has many significances and double meanings within the story. "Sonny's Blues" originated not from the heroine or the jazz music that played the major roles in the story. This is where the significance of "Sonny's Blues" really takes shape. Society of Choices What makes a person walk a path in life they have chosen compared to a friend or a family member? Cain and Abel were the sons of Adam and Eve who were the first humans created by Jehovah. There came a day when Cain and Abel both went to make an offering unto Jehovah; Abel made an offering from his flocks while Cain made an offering from the first fruits of his harvest. Many people argue that the foundation for Sonnys Blues was on the basis of the story of Cain and Abel. In similar ways, the narrator from Sonnys Blues did the same thing. Similarly in the last scene of Sonnys Blues, Sonnys playing at the club represented a second chance for him. Whether or not Sonnys Blues was directly based from the Biblical story of Cain and Abel, they both share the common premise relating to brotherly love.... James Baldwins's "Sonny's Blues" is the account of two brothers who grow up in Harlem in New York City. It follows Sonny and his brother after Sonny gets out of jail. In "Sonny's Blues" the theme of loss and suffering resonates throughout the story. A metaphor is a direct comparison of two abstract ideas. In "Sonny's Blues" written by James Baldwin two brothers, one an inspiring musician, the other a school teacher, are torn apart by their differences. "(Baldwin 77) The story of "Sonny's Blues" shows how two brothers can put aside their differences all through one brothers' music. Baldwin's choice of Sonny's brother as a narrator is what makes "Sonny's Blues" significant in terms of illustrating the relationship and emotional complications of Sonny and his brother.The significance of "Sonny's Blues" lies in the way Sonny's brother describes the relationship based on what he observes, hears, and feels, and how he struggles trying to understand Sonny thr...Burns wrote that "The best laid schemes o' mice and men / Gang aft a-gley [often go astray], / And lea'v us nought but grief and pain, / For promised joy." Just when it appears that George and Lennie will get their farm, fate steps in.Lennie just happens to be in the barn burying his dead pup when Curley's wife comes in.In this case, fate is given a hand by Lennie's inability to control his strength and understand what to do.Nevertheless, often life seems unpredictable and full of overwhelming difficulties.
